Sony’s been good at designing stylish smartphones and one such example is the Sony Xperia X10. With a stylish and sleek look and a good set of hardware, the device has really captured the attention of the smartphone users. Unfortunately, software side of the device is a bit disappointing as instead of the Android ICS or Jelly Bean firmware that you were expecting, you’re gonna get the Gingerbread experience, an aged firmware. However, the device is root-able and once you root it, you’ll have the opportunity to bump up your firmware version to ICS or maybe to Jelly Bean by simply using the custom ROMs available out there. Advantages of root access don’t end here, there’re many and listing them all here isn’t possible. So, for now, just root your device and you will be able to realize the true power of root access after that. Here you go:
By EditAndroid
I. Before You Begin:
1. This will void the warranty of your device. However, you can reinstate the warranty by unrooting the device if there’s any unrooting procedure available.
2. This procedure works on Windows based PCs only.
3. You should have appropriate drivers installed on your PC.
II. Downloading Required Files:
1. Root Package (Download link’s given in the first post)
III. Rooting the Sony Xperia X10:
1. Place the Root Package archive onto your Desktop.
2. Extract files from the archive to your Desktop.
3. Enable the USB debugging function on your device by heading to Menu>>Settings>>Applications>>Development>>USB debugging.
4. Enable the Unknown sources option as well by heading to Menu>>Settings>>Applications>>Unknown sources.
5. Once both are enabled, connect your device to your PC via USB cable.
6. Double-click on the RUNME.bat file you have on your Desktop.
7. Follow the on-screen instructions.
8. And you should be rooted now!
Good Job! You’ve successfully rooted your Sony Xperia X10 and you should now be able to install root-only apps and eventually a custom recovery image.
